WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

I have been coming to Balance Yoga Atlanta for over 3 years and consider this my home shala. Having been fortunate enough to practice Ashtanga yoga at shalas throughout the U.S. and across the globe, I recognize this as the finest place I have practiced. Whether you are a brand new student or a seasoned practitioner, Marsha always has great advice that improves everything from asana to breathing to motivating your practice. I highly recommend Marsha and Balance Yoga!!!!

I have been practicing with Marsha on Zoom since the pandemic. She is brilliant at knowing what to say and when to say it. Her verbal cues and adjustments have really shaped my practice. More importantly, her whole being is positive and encouraging, even through the medium of Zoom. The energy she conveys when she says, “Enjoy your practice!” is real and tangible and has carried me through many a morning when I just wanted to be in bed. When I practice at Balance Yoga, even though I am hundreds of miles away, I feel like I am part of a sangha, and that means everything to me.

I started practicing with Marsha at Balance about a decade ago. Marsha has created a dynamic and friendly community where everyone is welcome—from absolute beginners to more experienced practitioners. Marsha is a knowledgeable and compassionate teacher who meets students where they are and then helps guide them to where they want to go in their practice. This is definitely not a one-size-fits-all studio or practice! Marsha has a deep understanding of anatomy and yoga philosophy and she provides thoughtful suggestions and adjustments tailored to a student’s individual practice. I can truthfully say that I have experienced some of the happiest and most fulfilling moments of my life with Marsha at Balance Yoga. I always look forward to practices with Marsha and my fellow Balance yogis. I would encourage absolutely anyone to give Ashtanga yoga a try with Marsha at Balance! You will be astonished by the positive effects even after the first practice, but even more so by the transformation that comes from a sustained practice over time.

During the first months of the pandemic, I leaned heavily on my ashtanga practice and Marsha’s warm and attentive virtual gaze. Granted I usually drifted off to laundry, emails and breakfast long before it was time for backbends and closing but even if it was for 20 minutes, I focused on the breath and movement. Once the shala reopened, my schedule didn’t align with the classes as often as I liked so I decided to try a few privates to supplement the virtual and in person classes. I was worried that I really didn’t want all of Marsha’s attention on my lackadaisical practice, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Marsha met me exactly where I was, claimed I had lost some of my previous bad habits and taught me how to really breathe (after only 15 years or so!), how to enjoy my practice, how to quiet my mind and work hard without the aches and pains. While Marsha is a seasoned teacher who has studied with many of the great ashtanga teachers of our time, she has always approached the practice with curiosity and joy. She has a beautiful and advanced practice, but she is able to think like a beginner and work with her students wherever they are in their journey. In fact, recently my 83 year old mom was struggling with some balance and strength issues. I connected her with Marsha and now they work together virtually once a week and it is the highlight of my mom’s week. There are so many forms of exercise and meditation, and so many places to experience them in Atlanta, but if you really want to sweat, stretch out, get stronger and quiet your nervous system, ashtanga at Balance Yoga is the whole package. And the group experience cannot be beat either—the practitioners are all ages, all abilities and some of the warmest, loveliest people I have ever known.
